Description
he Sheffield Velocipede Car Company of Three Rivers, Michigan had its beginnings about 1877, when George S. Sheffield invented a three-wheeled railroad hand-car propelled by a combination of hand and foot power used in a push-pull fashion. At about 140 lbs., it was light enough to be swung off the tracks to make way for trains, and made an excellent track inspection car. The operator sits in the seat with the front and rear wheel on one rail with a wood outrigger and wheel resting on the opposite rail for stability. Wood body, steel wheels, cranks, and gears. In VG original condition with nice original paint. A real museum piece that is still fully operational. Overallmeasures 6′ wide with the outrigger extended, 6′ long, and about 40" tall.
