Guns & Militaria
Lot 2327:
Description
This sword is from the vet’s family and is reported to be captured on Okinawa. It is a very interesting late war sword. The blade is dull at base near habaki and shows much wear and dings to blade edge from combat use. The combat scabbard is leather covered wood and is in very rough condition. The handle is shorter than normal and it appears to be a reworked damaged sword that was reissued and shortened. The shark skin is made of compressed paper and there is no hole for the peg to hold the tang. There may be one under the hilt end cap under the copper knot ring. This sword tells the story of an empire on the verge of defeat and how they armed their officers at that stage. Blade is 25.25″ and overall is 36.5″.
