Vintage 1960 Mexican Calendar Advertisement Poster, beautifully framed poster created for a border business named “Curiosidades Matamoros” owned by Carlos Gonzalez Castillo, upper portion features a classic Mexican revolutionary scene, central figure on horseback is the famous General Francisco “Pancho” Villa, depicts him leading charges on horseback to symbolize courage and northern Mexican identity, middle section serves as a bilingual advertisement for a shop located in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, advertising wine & liquor, Tequila and souvenirs, targeting American tourists crossing the nearby old border bridge, the calendar pad at the bottom open to January 1960, purchased from lithography companies, custom business name was added with tear-off calendar block and distributed to customers as promotional gifts, below image text reads “SERIE 45 X 60”, standard production size, “NO.307, stock image inventory number, “IMPRESO EN MEXICO”, confirming lithograph was produced domestically, and “Lito. Estampa”, one of Mexico’s prominent commercial printing companies, by 1960, Pancho Villa moved from controversial civil war leaders to idealized national folk heroes, effective way for a border business to capture the attention of both patriotic Mexican locals and American tourists fascinated by the history of the Mexican revolution, main image appears remarkably crisp, no major signs of any damage or color fading, minor paper rippling consistent with 60 year old vintage paper, no apparent tears, punctures or missing paper along edged, calendar block is intact, clean, and still attached, housed behind glass in an attractive dark-stained wooden frame, very good condition, 24″ x 33 1/2″ x 2″
