Description
This rare, bound 92-page volume contains an exceptional early run of The Edison Phonographic News, including Volume 1, Numbers 1, 5, and 6, dating from May/June 1894 through March/April 1895. Published in the United States during the pioneering days of commercial sound recording, these trade journals were an indispensable resource for early phonograph exhibitors and operators, featuring historical sketches of Thomas Alva Edison, technical breakdowns of “Our Exhibitor’s Outfit,” and spectacular period engravings of early machinery like the Standard Electric Motor Edison Phonograph. The volume is bound in a period quarter-maroon cloth over marbled boards with a hand-inscribed paper title label affixed to the front cover. The exterior exhibits heavy shelf wear, edge scuffing, and rubbing to the marbled paper, with minor losses to the paper covering at the corners and edges. Internally, the pages show light age-toning and minor finger-soiling consistent with age and trade use, though the text and detailed plates remain clear, crisp, and fully intact.
