The Allen Koenigsberg Phonograph Collection
Lot 3190:
Description
This Victor Victrola VV-360 is a rare, premium upright internal-horn phonograph introduced in 1924 by the Victor Talking Machine Company. It was designed specifically for wealthy buyers who still preferred a traditional upright design over the newly popular flat-top console models. It was one of only three short-lived “Art Case” upright models, alongside the VV-350 and VV-370. The cabinet was available exclusively in high-grade walnut. The original finish is in good to VG condition. All visible mechanical components and trim feature premium gold plating which is in good to VG condition. It is equipped with a 4-spring motor and was configured to play Victor’s experimental, long-playing 14-inch records. It winds and plays well. The specialized pneumatic lid support system works perfectly. It retailed for $235 in 1924, which was a substantial investment at the time. Because the industry rapidly shifted to horizontal consoles and electrical Orthophonic phonographs by 1925, just under 1,300 units were manufactured with less than 100 surviving today, making it highly desirable for collectors. Measures 44.5” tall, 21” wide, 22.5” deep. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection. No shipping on this item. Customer pickup or 3rd party transporters only.
