Lot 1068:
Description
Brown wax cylinder record paired with an incredibly rare regional dealer slip. The cylinder is identified by the handwritten notes and the accompanying antique paper slip as Columbia Records #4044, “Tenting Tonight on the Old Campground,” recorded as a vocal solo by pioneering artist George J. Gaskin circa 1898. Adding immense value for early audio and ephemera enthusiasts is the original advertising insert page from the Williams & Rankin Co., a historic Columbia dealer based out of Providence, Rhode Island. The wax cylinder is in stable condition, exhibiting light surface mold and mild organic spotting with no visible cracks, chips, or breaks. The fragile paper dealer slip is remarkably preserved with light toning and faint edge wear. H 4.5″, W 2.5″, D 2.5″. Please see photos for condition. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection.
