Description

This charming lot features four antique early-20th-century children’s series books, offering a wonderful glimpse into early American juvenile literature and publication styles. The collection includes Tom the Telephone Boy by Frank V. Webster, published by Cupples & Leon Co. (New York), featuring a beautiful illustrated cloth cover showing a telephone operator. The remaining three books are published by Grosset & Dunlap (New York) and include The Moving Picture Girls Under the Palms and The Moving Picture Girls at Sea by Laura Lee Hope, alongside The Moving Picture Boys and the Flood by Victor Appleton. These volumes feature iconic, vibrant pictorial cloth covers typical of the 1910s series book era. All four volumes show signs of age and wear consistent with handling, including moderate shelf wear to the edges, bumping to the corners and spine ends, and general toning and light staining to the cloth covers and page edges. The interior endpapers feature handwritten Christmas gift inscriptions dating from 1914, 1916, 1917, and 1918, adding a lovely historical and personal provenance to the set. The bindings remain intact but show expected age-related loosening. H 7.5″, W 5.25″, D 4″. Please see photos.
