Phonograph Records And Books Auction - ONLINE ONLY
Lot 2068:
Description
This lot includes a curated collection of seven vintage books focusing on the history, discography, and technical operation of early phonographs and recorded music. Featured titles include From Tin Foil to Stereo: Evolution of the Phonograph by Oliver Read & Walter L. Welch (2nd Edition, 1977), Roland Gelatt’s The Fabulous Phonograph 1877–1977 (1977), Brian Rust’s The American Record Label Book (1978), R.R. Bowker’s Bibliography of Discographies Volume 2: Jazz (1981), a 1971 facsimile edition of the 1893 classic The Phonograph and How to Use It facsimile copy published by Allen Koenigsberg in New York, The World’s Encyclopædia of Recorded Music: Second Supplement (1951–1952) published in London, and a rare early copy of Cal Stewart’s Uncle Josh’s Punkin Centre Stories published by Stanton and Van Vliet Co. of Chicago (copyright 1903, 1905). These invaluable reference materials offer deep insight into early audio technology and music history. The books show varying degrees of vintage wear, including scuffing, edge and corner wear, discoloration to the cloth and paper covers, shaken bindings on the older volumes, and minor foxing on the pages, but remain intact and highly legible. H 7″, W 10.25″, D 7.5″. See photos for condition.
