Phonograph Records And Books Auction - ONLINE ONLY
Lot 2052:
Description
This impressive lot features five premier hardcover reference books essential for any serious collector or archivist of vintage Victor Talking Machine and Gramophone company recordings. Highlighting the set is a rare, author-inscribed copy of The Victor Master Book, Volume 2 (1925–1936) by celebrated discographer Brian Rust, signed and dated in 1969. The collection also boasts a highly desirable limited edition of The Victor Data Book by Robert W. Baumbach (No. 34 of 100), warmly inscribed and signed by the author in 2005, alongside a first edition of Michael W. Sherman’s Victrola + Record: The Collector’s Guide to Victor Records (1992). Completing this scholarly assembly are Ted Fagan and William R. Moran’s The Encyclopedic Discography of Victor Recordings (Pre-Matrix Series) (1983) and Alan Kelly’s comprehensive numerical catalog His Master’s Voice / De Stem van zijn Meester: The Dutch Catalogue (1997), both published by Greenwood Press. Together, these volumes represent decades of meticulous archival research into historical matrix numbers, recording sessions, and label variations. The books display minor external shelf wear, faint scuffing to the cloth boards, and light corner bumping consistent with careful library reference use, though the interior pages remain clean, tightly bound, and highly legible. When stacked, the books measure H 5.75″, W 11.25″, D 9″. See photos for condition.
