The Allen Koenigsberg Phonograph Collection
Lot 3226:
Description
This intriguing lot features late 19th-century advertising and event ephemera centered around early sound technology, specifically the “Vocophone” and “Gram-O-Phone.” Included is an original flyer for a “Grand Vocophone Concert” benefiting the J.E.B. Stuart Camp Soldiers’ Monument Fund in Petersburg, Virginia, printed by Kirkham & Co., alongside a small matching admission ticket/card for the J.E.B. Stuart Camp Vocophone event. Accompanying these is a modern photocopy of a historical advertisement for “The Improved Gram-O-Phone” by the National Gramophone Co. of New York, featuring handwritten research notes at the top. The pieces provide a wonderful glimpse into post-Civil War commemorative events and the novel dawn of talking machines. The original paper items exhibit expected age-toning, minor edge wear, and a horizontal fold line on the flyer, while the photocopy has standard binder hole-punches; all text remains sharp and highly legible. Flyer: H 9.25″, W 5.875″, Ticket: H 2.75″, W 3.5″, Photocopy: H 11″, W 8.5″. Please see photos for condition. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection.
