The Allen Koenigsberg Phonograph Collection
Lot 3195:
Description
This exceptional early 20th-century point-of-sale advertising display features “Nipper,” the legendary fox terrier mascot famous for representing Victor Talking Machine Co. and His Master’s Voice (HMV). While often mistaken for standard composition, this scarce 14″ variety is crafted from a heavy molded composition or hard rubber compound produced by the renowned Old King Cole Company of Canton, Ohio—confirmed by the partial original manufacturer’s stamp visible on the inside lower rim. Captured in his iconic attentive pose with one cocked ear listening to a phonograph, the figure features its molded studded collar and a weathered hand-painted finish that gives it a superb, authentic folk art presence. Objectively, the statue shows physical wear entirely consistent with its age and material, including a stable hairline crack running down the right front shoulder and upper leg, minor surface micro-cracking across the torso, and expected small paint chips and flaking. The interior rim shows a small fragment loss adjacent to the manufacturer’s label, and the open base displays a rough, unfinished bottom edge. H 14″, W 11 1/2″, D 6. Please see photos for condition.
