Description

“A Love Message” is a famous 1908 advertising illustration created by noted artist Guernsey Moore for the Edison Phonograph. The print reflects the Arts and Crafts movement and the era’s deep aesthetic curiosity about Japanese culture, depicting a woman in a kimono seated next to a phonograph. The print is matted and framed under glass with a bamboo style frame. In overall poor and fragile condition with tears and numerous old tape repairs. Colors have faded. Frame measures 24” wide, 31” tall. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection. Thomas Guernsey Moore (February 14, 1874 – January 6, 1925), known professionally as Guernsey Moore, was a prominent American illustrator, designer, and decorator who shaped the visual identity of twentieth-century American magazines. He is most famous for redesigning The Saturday Evening Post and creating its iconic, hand-lettered masthead style.
