Description

The Edison Spring Motor Phonograph was introduced by Thomas Edison’s National Phonograph Company in 1895. The spring-powered phonograph signaled the transition from unreliable electric batteries. It is powered by a heavy triple-mainspring motor patented by Frank Capps in 1895. The cabinet is a quarter-sawn oak case with a wrap-around wooden lid that covered the entire phonograph like an antique sewing machine. It has a built-in drawer to hold accessories, oil cans, and a specialized shaving brush. It is also equipped with an attached record shaver. This machine is equipped with a Bettini attachment with a Type D reproducer. Reproducer has intact spider and stylus and plays loud. Comes with a 41” all brass horn with a 16” bell, Bettini connection end, and a tripod horn stand. Machine comes with a cover that has suffered water damage but can be rebuilt. Machine measures 16.5” wide, 10.25” deep, 14” tall without the cover on. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection.
