Description
These late 19th to early 20th-century Lakota (Sioux) moccasins are a superb example of indigenous craftsmanship, characterized by their exceptional preservation. Hand-constructed from soft-tanned buckskin, they feature vibrant, full-coverage “lazy stitch” beadwork in a traditional geometric pattern. The palette of forest green, cobalt blue, and greasy-red accents against a crisp white seed bead background is classic for the era, with the central green bar being a common motif of the Teton Sioux. The soles are made of thick, durable rawhide, showing authentic construction intended for use, though they remain in collector-grade condition. The leather is remarkably supple, and the rawhide soles show hardening and expected soil staining consistent with age. Most notably, there is no evident bead loss at the heels or across the uppers, and the internal sinew remains structurally sound. H 3″, W 3.75″, D 9.25″. Please see photos.
