Relics of the American West: 1850-1920
Lot 2240:
Description
This Plains-style Native American inspired shirt features a vibrant red wool body accented by a V-shaped buckskin yoke on the front, adorned with a beaded bison/buffalo head motif and framed by blue, black, and white glass seed beadwork. The hide sleeves feature long, dramatic fringe along the seams and are decorated with vibrant yellow, red, and dark blue dyed quillwork strips stitched along the tops. The bottom edge of the wool shirt is finished with a self-fringed, dip-dyed look. The piece shows general aging and wear consistent with use or display, including light discoloration and stiffening to the hide sleeves, though the beadwork and quillwork remain largely intact and visually striking. H 28″, W 32″, D 2″. Please see photos for condition.
