Description

This pair of items consists of a traditional Native American stone-head war club and a hide-wrapped ceremonial rattle, likely originating from the Plains region in the late 19th or early 20th century. The club features a rawhide-wrapped handle adorned with patriotic-colored seed beadwork (blue, white, and red) including a cross motif, and is finished with long leather fringes at the base. The rattle displays a stone head, a wood handle with transitional beadwork in black and light blue, and a red cloth wrap with a braided cord wrist loop. The war club shows significant wear to the rawhide and minor bead loss, while the rattle is in fair condition with structural instability at the neck; the rattle head is currently secured with protective tape which, per the inscription in image_2.png and image_3.png, should not be removed as it protects a loose connection. Large Rattle: H 20″, W 4.5″, D 4.5″; Smaller Club: H 19″, W 2.75″, D 2.75″. Please see photos for condition.
