Description

This unique pair of ethnographic pieces showcases the rugged, functional artistry of Plains-style craftsmanship. The war club features a heavy, dark, igneous stone head secured to a wooden shaft with thick rawhide that has aged to a deep, translucent amber. The handle is accented with bands of red and black glass seed beads. Accompanying the club is a ceremonial fly whisk or coup stick featuring very soft, long, blonde animal hair attached to a leather-wrapped handle with a wrist strap. Both pieces exhibit a weathered patina consistent with age or deliberate historical styling. The club head measures 3 1/2 inches long by 2 inches wide and 1.75 inches deep. There is a significant horizontal crack in the wood shaft just below the head attachment, and the leather shows some drying. The whisk’s hair remains supple and well-attached. H 22.5″, W 3.5″, D 2″.
