Relics of the American West: 1850-1920
Lot 2071:
Description
This unique assembly pairs a genuine WWI-era brass bugle, marked “PHILA. DEPOT SPEC. 1152 4-11-17,” with a mid-century “Cody Colt” cast metal toy cap gun, complete with its original leather holster and a set of embossed leather saddlebags. The bugle, though an authentic military-issue piece from the Philadelphia Depot, is a compact “trench” style that fits perfectly alongside the Western-themed toys, suggesting a cherished “army-navy” play set from a bygone era. The brass bugle retains a heavy, untouched patina with minor surface oxidation; the Cody Colt toy shows significant play wear and oxidation to the metal components; the leather items—both the holster and the saddlebags—show heavy age-related cracking, stiffening, and some stitch loss at the saddlebag hinge. Bugle: L 7.75″, Dia 3.75″; Pistol: H 4.25″, W 7.75″, D 1.5″; Holster: H 6″, W 4″; Saddlebags (Set): H 12″, W 16″, D 3″. Please see photos for condition.
