Description

This remarkable collection features four distinct pieces of Plains-style artistry, showcasing traditional quillwork and beadwork on brain-tanned leather. The centerpiece is a substantial trade knife featuring a weathered wooden handle and a heavily patinated carbon steel blade; the blade bears a distinct arched “WINTERHOLLER” tang stamp. The knife measures 13.5″ long with an 8.5″ blade. Its matching scabbard, measuring 9.75″ long (excluding 10″ tassels) and 2.75″ wide, features intricate pink and yellow geometric quillwork framed by vibrant blue seed beads. The set also includes a striking red and white striped quilled tobacco pouch measuring 2.25″ wide and 6″ long with a 7.5″ leather fringe, a quilled pouch with a metal button enclosure at approximately 9″ total length and 4″ wide, and a rare double-sided quilled rectangular pouch measuring 4.25″ long by 4″ tall and 1.75″ thick. Overall, the collection is in good vintage condition, showing authentic wear consistent with age, including noticeable fading of the quills on the scabbard, significant quill loss on the double-sided square pouch, and heavy oxidation and pitting on the knife blade. H 13.5″, W 4″, D 1.75″. Please see photos for condition.
