Relics of the American West: 1850-1920
Lot 2015:
Description
This extensive collection of 77 individual stone projectile points and tools showcases a diverse array of North American lithic styles and materials. The grouping includes a variety of forms such as side-notched, corner-notched, and triangular points. The materials represent a wide geological spectrum, featuring high-quality cherts, flints, and jaspers in hues ranging from translucent whites and smoky blacks to earthy bister and jasper-red. Each piece exhibits traditional knapping techniques, from delicate pressure-flaked edges on the smaller bird points to the more robust percussion flaking on the larger utility bifaces. The items are in varied “as-found” condition, with many pieces showing the expected signs of age and subterranean recovery, such as weathered surfaces and minor nicks to the tips or bases. Case H 12″, W 16″, D 1″. Please see photos.
