Relics of the American West: 1850-1920
Lot 2007:
Description
This vintage fixed-blade utility knife, manufactured by the Ontario Knife Co. in the USA, features a classic wooden handle secured by two brass pins and a carbon steel blade showing a rich, aged patina. It is paired with a striking hand-beaded leather sheath, likely of Native American style, adorned with a vibrant “salt and pepper” mixture of multi-colored glass seed beads. The beadwork is executed in a traditional wrap or lazy stitch, terminating in small leather fringe at the tip. The knife displays significant surface oxidation and pitting on the blade consistent with age, while the wooden handle shows honest field wear and darkening; the beaded sheath remains largely intact with minor loosening of the leather ties at the throat. H 10.5″, W 1.75″, D 1″. Please see photos.
