Description

This is an evocative example of turn-of-the-century Art Nouveau design, featuring a central winged cherub or “putti” supporting a circular dial within a frame of flowing, organic scrollwork. The piece is cast in metal—likely cast iron or white metal based on the oxidation patterns—and finished with a classic gilt or gold-tone overlay. The reverse of the frame is clearly stamped with the patent date “PAT OCT 2 1906”. While the manufacturer is not explicitly signed on the dial, similar 1906-patented cherub frames from this era were frequently produced by notable American firms like the Western Clock Manufacturing Co. (later Westclox) or featured German movements.
The dial itself exhibits stylized Arabic numerals and an ornate filigree center common to the aesthetic of the early 1900s. The piece shows significant age-related wear, including oxidation to the metal casing, loss of the gilt finish on high points and the reverse, and minor yellowing of the dial face. The movement is functional when wound, though its accuracy is untested and the rear winding key and knobs show surface rust. Dimensions: 11″ H x 7.75″ W x 3.5″ D. Please see photos for condition.
