Description

This striking pair of “Gingerbread” or kitchen clocks represents the pinnacle of late 19th-century American domestic horology, likely produced by the renowned Ansonia Clock Co. of New York. The darker clock features a heavily pressed wood case with intricate floral and geometric motifs, while the lighter oak-toned clock displays classic Victorian grape and leaf carvings. Both retain their original reverse-painted decorated glass tablets, which remain in remarkable condition without cracks or detrimental damage. Internally, the lighter clock features a fascinating “A” trademarked pendulum with a speed adjustment gauge and an alarm bell mechanism. Physically, the darker clock is missing its minute hand and requires its dial to be reset to the original position. Both units show expected surface wear, minor wood scuffs, and some finish loss to the rear panels, and while the alarm on one still rings, both movements are currently non-operational and require a professional servicing to return to their former glory. Darker Clock: H 23.75″, W 14.75″, D 5″. Lighter Clock: H 24.5″, W 15″, D 5″. Please see photos for condition. Note: Pickup/ Transport required. Contacts available post auction.
