Description

The Emerson Wondergram is a miniature, battery-powered transistor record player produced in England between 1958 and 1965. Marketed as “The World’s Smallest Record Player” and famously promoted with the slogan “the world of music in the palm of your hand,” it was manufactured by Baird (part of Camp Baird Industries) but found its largest market in North America under the Emerson brand. Weighing just under two pounds, this “pocket-sized” device was designed for outdoor use at picnics or beaches. It can play both 45 RPM and 33 1/3 RPM records without a traditional large turntable. The unit features three fold-out tripod legs that elevate the case to allow the downward-facing speaker to radiate sound more effectively. Placing the tone arm on the edge of a record automatically starts the motor, and it includes an auto cut-off feature to stop when the record ends. It is built from a combination of black plastic and gold anodized aluminum. Operates by four “C” cell batteries (6-volt). Motor runs, static from speaker when volume control turned, missing the needle cartridge. Sold for parts or repair. Measures 8″ x 4″ x 2″
