The Frank Rider Collection - Spring Classic Part 1 - Day 2
Lot 1065e:
Description
This is a fascinating find for any collector of vintage arcade amusement machines—an original internal film reel and drive assembly for an International Mutoscope Reel Co. machine. These “what-the-butler-saw” style peep-show machines were staples of early 20th-century arcades, utilizing a complex flip-card mechanism to create the illusion of motion. The assembly includes the primary cast-iron frame with the manual hand-crank, gear-driven advancement system, and a light socket mount for the viewer illumination. The included cast-metal viewer hood clearly shows the iconic manufacturer’s mark: “INTERNATIONAL METER REEL CO. NEW YORK.” Condition-wise, the assembly shows significant oxidation and surface patina typical of equipment that has been in long-term storage, though the main gear train appears free of obvious damage or major structural compromise. H 14″, W 14″, D 7″. Please see photos for condition.
