The Frank Rider Collection - Spring Classic Part 1 - Day 2
Lot 1111:
Description
This charming set is a remarkable survivor from the turn-of-the-century era, offering a tangible link to the vibrant cigar manufacturing history of Sandusky, Ohio. At the peak of this industry, Sandusky boasted numerous factories and ornate storefronts that served as social hubs, and your table’s heavy cast-iron pedestal—marked “LAKE CIGAR CO. SANDUSKY, OHIO”—likely served as a functional display piece in one such establishment, capitalizing on the region’s Great Lakes branding. The set features a robust, circular oak tabletop and is accompanied by four delicate, twisted-wire frame chairs that capture the distinct industrial-retail aesthetic of the period. A particularly clever design feature is the integrated circular shelf located just below the tabletop, likely intended for patrons to set down drinks, cigars, or personal belongings during a game or conversation. While the tabletop exhibits a separation between some of the boards, this is a minor issue that can be easily remedied by a capable restorer. Overall, the wear on the set is commensurate with its age and history, with no significant structural cracks or loss of wood beyond the noted board separation. H 31″, W 39.25″, D 39.25”. Please see photos for condition. Note: Pickup/Transport required. Contacts available post auction.
