Antique Patent-Elastique Saddler’s Sewing Machine, made by Emile James of New York circa 1900, Politype No. 4 is a rarer German-made machine specifically designed for professional cobblers and leather makers for sewing shoes and saddles, features a universal feed allowing it to sew in any direction without rotating the workpiece, functions through a foot treadle or a hand crank, specially adapted for steam power to handle boot repairs and heavy leather work, no breaks or repairs to the castings, retains most of its original paint, works well both by hand crank and treadle operation, overall very good condition, see photos. Highly sought-after by leather artisans and decorative industrial collectors.
