Lot 1205:
Description
A stunning example of an original Civil War-era, three screw, single action Colt Model 1860 Army, revolver chambered in .44 caliber. It displays matching serial numbers “134630” throughout, including the frame, barrel, brass trigger guard and strap, placing production in 1863. The barrel displays the New York address: “- ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA -“, and a Naval Engagement scene is faintly scene inscribed on the cylinder. Military “D” inspection marks are visible on the barrel and cylinder, and an “H” inspector marked is visible on the trigger guard. The walnut grips are well preserved and have a nice deep color finish. There are some light marks on the grips consistent with service use. The finish exhibits a dark, natural salt-and-pepper patina consistent with age and the brass trigger guard displays a dull golden color. Bore is dark and has oxidation consistent with its age, however, the rifling is still in good condition with some rounding. Mechanically, the action and trigger appear to function properly. This .44 caliber percussion powerhouse comes housed in a period-correct, velvet-lined locking wooden presentation case along with an impressive array of accessories: a brass “Stands of Flags” powder flask, a dual-cavity bullet mold, two cleaning rods, a nipple wrench/screwdriver tool, a James Dixon & Son powder measurer, a brass – leather wrapped telescope (spy glass), an original box of American Powder Company cartridges, an original Eley Bros. percussion cap tin, a reproduction cap tin and 6 -cartridges in a wood holder. The set is further accented by an ornate U.S. Cavalry insignia and a bullion patch. Overall, this is an amazing piece of American firearm history that is accented by an impressive case/display. Please see photos for overall condition. Key is included with case. S/N: 134630 (Antique) Case: H 3″, W 17.25″, D 10″.
