Hollywood Blvd Cinema Memorabilia
Lot 1542a:
Description
This impressive collection of architectural salvage features hand-carved wooden components reflecting an eclectic mix of Greco-Roman and Anglo-Indian influences. The lot includes six substantial bell-shaped capitals with flowing acanthus and foliate motifs, two vibrant green-washed capitals, and several decorative façade fragments featuring remnants of blue and gold polychrome finish. The standout 48-inch pillar showcases deep geometric “chip-carving” in repeating chevron and diamond patterns, a style frequently seen in Swat Valley or Nurestani woodwork, where such pillars supported the heavy timber architecture of the Hindu Kush region. The wood appears to be a dense hardwood, likely teak or cedar, showing significant age-related character. Condition is consistent with salvaged architectural elements, exhibiting heavy weathering, natural wood splitting (checking), scattered chips to the carvings, and paint loss that enhances the authentic patina. Pillar: H 48″, W 7″, D 7″. Large Capitals (6): H 10″, W 14″, D 14″. Small Capitals (2): H 8″, W 10″, D 10″. Façade Piece: H 13″, W 7″, D 4″. Please use photos to judge condition and bid accordingly. Please note: Buyer is responsible for removal. From the Hollywood Blvd. Cinemas Collection.
