Hollywood Blvd Cinema Memorabilia
Lot 1531:
Description
Standing as a striking example of Southeast Asian-inspired religious decor, this tall, slender Buddha figure is crafted in a traditional Thai “Abhaya Mudra” (dispelling fear) or “Varada Mudra” style, though modified for a more contemporary, flattened silhouette. The piece is constructed from wood or a heavy composite, finished in an opulent gold leaf or high-luster gilt paint. It features intricate relief work along the robes and a crown or “Ushnisha” adorned with inset multi-colored glass or acrylic “jewels” in red, blue, and amber hues. The elongated ears and serene facial expression are classic hallmarks of Buddhist iconography. Based on the construction and the flattened profile—measuring only 6 inches deep—this was likely designed as a high-end theatrical prop or architectural niche piece. The item shows some minor surface wear, including small chips in the gilding and light scuffing along the edges and base, but remains structurally sound and visually impressive. H 77″, W 27″, D 13″. Please use photos to judge condition and bid accordingly. Please note: Buyer is responsible for removal. From the Hollywood Blvd. Cinemas Collection.
