Description
This striking collection consists of six hand-carved and polychrome-painted wooden masks originating from Bali, Indonesia. Representing various characters from traditional Balinese dance-drama, such as the protective Barong or fierce Rangda, these mid-to-late 20th-century pieces feature the classic exaggerated features, bulging eyes, and prominent tusks characteristic of the region’s artistry. The masks are crafted from light-grained wood and finished with vibrant red, gold, and green pigments. All items show signs of age-appropriate wear, including minor paint loss, surface abrasions, and small chips to the delicate carved points, particularly on the teeth and flaming hair motifs.
