Description
Massive Chinoiserie Cinema Archway
This impressive architectural installation is a premier example of "Movie Palace" Chinoiserie, designed to evoke the opulence of the Great Hollywood era. The structure features a grand pagoda-style roof adorned with gilded dragon finials and a central openwork dragon medallion, all rendered in a vibrant palette of imperial red, teal, and gold. The two supporting columns, each measuring 8" in diameter, showcase fluted red shafts and intricate floral capitals that transition into a stepped, foliate-carved base. Likely commissioned for a high-end theater lobby or a themed commercial venue, the piece reflects the 20th-century Western fascination with Eastern aesthetics rather than authentic Tibetan or traditional Chinese architecture. The construction appears to be a robust mix of wood and composite materials. Condition is objectively good, displaying scattered paint chips, minor scuffs on the column shafts, and typical edge wear consistent with a large-scale decorative fixture. H 115", W 90", D 36". Please use photos to judge condition and bid accordingly. Please note: Buyer is responsible for removal. From the Hollywood Blvd. Cinemas Collection.
