ALL RISE! This is an authentic 19th-century ink signature of Morrison Remick Waite, who served as the 7th Chief Justice of the United States from 1874 to 1888. The signature is executed in a graceful, flowing script on a heavy cream-toned cardstock typical of the Victorian era. Waite is a significant figure in American judicial history, having presided over the court during the Reconstruction era and the rise of corporate personhood. The value of a Morrison R. Waite signature is primarily driven by its scarcity relative to other 19th-century Chief Justices and the format of the autograph. While Waite is a common name for judicial collectors, high-quality, unclipped examples are steadily sought after for legal history displays.
