Description
WWII US Navy Inflatable Life Belt
This is a genuine piece of WWII naval history: a Type B-4 inflatable life belt, often referred to as a "Mae West" style flotation device, manufactured by the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. This specific unit is stamped with a manufacture date of August 7, 1944, and carries the contract number NXSS-36191, clearly marked as "Property U.S. Navy." Constructed of heavy-duty rubberized canvas in a dark olive drab/grey, it features the original blue webbing straps, metal hardware, and the critical CO2 inflation manifold with its pull-cord still intact. The rubber remains remarkably pliable for its age, though there is expected surface oxidation (blooming), minor fading, and light scuffing consistent with military surplus storage. The internal bladder’s integrity is untested. H 25", W 14", D 2". Please see photos.
