Lot 349b:
Description
A wonderful piece of mid-century quack medical technology, this is a Sinustat Model 1518 electrotherapy machine from the McIntosh Electrical Corp. of Chicago. Representing a clear design evolution from the earlier wood-and-brass quack devices, this machine has a clean, clinical aesthetic with its painted case and a beautifully designed bakelite control panel. It offered the practitioner a range of “modalities,” including Galvanic, Sinusoidal, and Faradic currents for physical therapy. Its fantastic retro-futuristic look makes it a perfect decorative item or prop. The cream-colored case shows significant cosmetic wear, including numerous scuffs, chips, and paint loss. The black control panel, however, remains in excellent, clean condition. No cords or patient accessories are included. Sold as a non-functional historical artifact. H 14.5″, W 20″, D 13″.
