Description

This captivating lot presents a historical ensemble: an antique doll dress, hat, and boots with known provenance. The handwritten note identifies the garments as having been made by Mrs. Frank Hamachek Sr. in 1886, and donated by her daughter, Sylvia H. Classon of Kewaunee, Wisconsin. The dress is a stunning example of late 19th-century children’s fashion, featuring a brown and tan finely-striped, woven cotton or wool fabric with a distinctive, wide collar and puffed sleeves that gather into a small ruffle at the elbow. The skirt is full and pleated at the waist. It is shown on a mannequin (described as a “Plastic doll” in the note), which is not included. It is on a wire framed form. Also included are a matching cap/hat with blue silk bow. The accompanying pair of miniature boots are leather, featuring a small heel, pointed toe, and visible hand-stitched soles with hobnails (as seen from the bottom view). The overall condition is consistent with the age of the items: the dress exhibits some minor fading and expected wear but is largely intact, while the boots show significant wear, scuffing, cracking of the leather, and visible interior deterioration, particularly around the top edges. The historical note itself is aged and slightly yellowed. Approximate measurements for the dress: H 23”, W 10″, D 5”. Boots: H 9”, W”2”, D 6”.
