Description

This is a striking pair of Plains Indian-style gauntlet gloves, likely a mid-20th-century or later reproduction, expertly crafted to evoke the traditional artistry of the American West. They are made of a rich, tan or buckskin-colored leather or suede with long, decorative fringe extending from the cuffs. The standout feature is the large, meticulously beaded patch on the back of each hand, depicting a buffalo (or bison) head in deep maroon, brown, and black seed beads against a lighter, golden-tan background. Further adding to the authentic look, black arrows or directional symbols have been drawn or painted onto the wrist area of the glove’s back. The overall design suggests a ceremonial, decorative, or perhaps a modern “Western wear” application rather than original 19th-century utility. The condition appears to be excellent, with a nice patina and some minor surface wear and creasing consistent with age or gentle use, but the beading and fringe all appear intact. H 15″, W 8″. From the Western display in Donley’s Wild West Town.
