Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1476:
Description
This is a handsome, collectible replica badge in the classic Old West style, specifically a Deputy U.S. Marshal from I.T. (Indian Territory), which today encompasses much of Oklahoma. This pattern as a high-quality commemorative piece, belonging to The Franklin Mint’s “Collection of Great Western Lawmen Sterling Silver Badges” issued circa 1987. The design features a five-pointed star set within a crescent, a highly recognizable Western motif, with “DEPUTY MARSHAL” around the perimeter and “I.T. UNITED STATES” within the star. The reverse is stamped “STERLING,” confirming the material as $0.925$ sterling silver, a characteristic of this specific collection, and features a functional pin mechanism. An inscription, “BCM 14,” has been lightly marked into the reverse, likely an inventory or collector’s mark, and is not original to the minting. The piece presents well, retaining a deep, attractive patina that lends it an antique aesthetic. Condition is very good, with no visible damage beyond the expected minor surface scuffs on the back and the intentional dark finish. The pin attachment is fully intact and functional. Based on the user’s measurement note, this is a substantial piece. H 2.25″, W 2.25″, D 0.25″. From the Western display in Donley’s Wild West Town
