Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1473:
Description
This is a mid to late 19th-century Telegraph key manufactured by L.G. Tillotson & Co. Considered one of the largest independent telegraph manufacturers in the United States at the time, L.G. Tillotson & Co was a successful manufacturer, importer and dealer of telegraph, railroad and electrical products during the years of 1865 through 1897. The unit features a beautiful cast iron base painted black with very attractive gold stenciling and scrollwork. Clearly visible on the base is the maker’s mark: “L. G. TILLOTSON & C. NEW YORK”. The base exhibits minor wear to the gold stenciling and a few scuffs, typical for an item of this age. The brass components show a pleasant, dark patina with some tarnishing, and the original cloth-covered wires are frayed. Also included is a reproduction Western Union Telegraph. H 4″, L 10″, W 5.5″
