Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1423:
Description
A beautiful example of an “Old Clover” clear glass whiskey bottle, dating from the early 20th century, was produced by the Rehm Zeiher Company out of Louisville, KY. Companies like Rehm Zeiher, who referred to themselves as distillers, functioned more as rectifiers and liquor wholesalers. This elegant designed bottle features a distinct swirled or twisted neck, a style sometimes referred to as “rope twist,” which tapers down to a smoothly curved body. The bottle has a smooth lip, designed for a cork stopper. The front of the bottle is marked in white enamel, “pyroglaze,” with the bold text “OLD CLOVER” above a clear, stylized clover leaf. Bottles of this type, often used for smaller, higher-end spirits or bar displays, show the transition from purely utilitarian to more decorative packaging. The bottle is in good condition, with no chips or cracks. H 11″, W 3.5″.
