Description
A classic counter-top balance scale, dating from the late 19th or early 20th century and is a quintessential piece of general store or apothecary equipment. The body is made of brass and steel with two brass hangers. The pans are made of tin. The scale mechanism works. The balance center pillar is attached to a wood box with a drawer. Within the drawer are the contents of:
1. Four sets of counterweights for the scale with various weight ranges.
2. Pharmacist bottle labels for a “Louise W. Prange” out of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
3. Set of scale tools (small spoon, eyedropper, tweezers and small mixing cup).
4. Three vials of minerals (Diatomaceous Earth, Sodium Biborate, and Nickel Sulfate).
Overall the scale is in good working order and shows a nice patina to the brass and metal parts for its age. The wooden box is structural sound, and shows minor marks from wear and use. Wood Box: H 2.75″, W 10″, D 5″. Scale H 8.25”, W8.5” D 2.5”.
