Lot 1313:
Description
An exceptional find, a full, original, and intact box of Frankford Arsenal manufactured Model 1898 .30 Caliber ammunition, specifically the .30-40 Krag cartridge, intended for the U.S. Magazine Rifle (the Krag-Jørgensen). The box specifies the powder blend as F.A. Blend, Nitroglycerine, Cal. .30, Lot 11 of 1914, and is marked “Reloaded and Repacked at FRANKFORD ARSENAL.” The rear of the box is stamped OCT 7 1914, making this a pre-WWI dated box of service ammunition. The cartridges are brass-cased, head stamped with “F A” (Frankford Arsenal) and a two-digit year, such as ’04 (1904) and ’10 (1910), indicating that the box contains mixed-year reloads and repacked, which is typical for arsenal practice. The box contains 20 rounds of ammunition. Please see photos for overall condition and markings. H 3.25″, W 5.5″, D 1.25″
