Description

This is a magnificent and authentic set of Texas Longhorn steer horns, beautifully mounted and likely dating from the mid-20th century, consistent with the Western revival décor popular from the 1950s onward. The style is classic Southwestern Americana, often displayed in dens, bars, or Western-themed establishments. The horns themselves are large, featuring a natural, creamy white to dark brown/black coloration at the tips, showcasing the steer’s age and breed. They are expertly joined at the center with a decorative cuff assembly: a main section of tanned, lighter brown leather (possibly cowhide) with striking black leather end bands and rich, dark red leather trim secured by brass tacks. The central section is further embellished with a double-wrapped band of natural-fiber rope, adding a rustic, textural contrast. The piece is currently displayed on a simple, dark-stained wooden mounting block. The condition is very good for its age, with a rich patina on the horns and leather consistent with display and handling. The leather shows minor scuffing and light surface wear but remains supple, and all brass tacks appear present and secure. H 15″ (estimated), W 59” D 6″ (estimated). From the Western display in Donley’s Wild West Town. NOTE: Pickup/transport required. Contacts available post auction.
