Lot 1388:
Description
This is an amazing piece of Klondike Gold Rush history: “Klondike: The Chicago Record’s Book for Gold Seekers”, published by The Chicago Record Co. in 1897. This hardcover book served as an essential guide for those heading to the Alaska and Yukon gold fields during the peak of the gold rush era. It features detailed, profuse illustrations, including the memorable cover image of the arduous climb up the Chilkoot Trail. The book is bound in gray/gold cloth and shows external wear consistent with its age, including scuffing, fading, and staining on the cloth covers, especially on the spine and edges. The interior title page is present and clearly indicates the publisher and date. The edges and corners are rubbed, and the cloth is starting to fray in a few spots. Given its age and utility as a period guide, this wear is generally acceptable for a collector. H 8.5″, W 6″, D 1.5″.
