Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1288:
Description
This is a beautiful example of an early 20th-century Arts and Crafts footstool, likely made of quarter-sawn oak with a dark reddish-brown finish, characteristic of the American Mission style. The piece is clearly identified by a metal tag on the underside as being manufactured by the Quaint Furniture Co. of Grand Rapids, Mich., a well-regarded producer of quality Mission-style furniture. It features robust, square legs with through-tenon look joinery at the top rails, a slatted deck, and a thick, overstuffed cushion upholstered in what appears to be worn, light brown or caramel-colored leather. The underside also shows hand-painted numbers, “5935,” which are likely a pattern or lot number. The condition is commensurate with age and use; the wood shows wear, particularly visible ring marks on the slatted deck where the cushion rests, and some rubs on the legs. The leather cushion is well-used with significant wrinkling and patination. A corner of the metal tag appears bent and corroded. The item appears generally structurally sound. H 17″, W 17.25″, D 12″. NOTE: Pickup/transport required. Contacts available post auction.
