Description
This is a wonderful example of a classic Arts and Crafts Mission style footstool, attributed to the Limbert’s Arts & Crafts Furniture Company of Grand Rapids, Michigan, based on the remnant of a period paper label visible on the underside. The footstool features a sturdy, dark-stained quarter-sawn oak base with characteristic cut-out trestle-style sides and is topped with a rectangular cushion upholstered in black leather, secured with visible tacking. The design’s simplicity and exposed construction are hallmarks of the movement. The dark finish shows some expected wear and scuffing consistent with age and use, particularly along the lower edges of the feet. The upholstery appears intact with minor creasing but no obvious tears. The underside also shows a stamped number “20.5″ H X 7″, W X 18.75″ D 10.25″
