Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1276:
Description
This is a fine example of a classic Arts and Crafts period plant or fern stand, likely crafted from quarter-sawn oak with a deep, fumed brown finish. The clean, unadorned rectilinear form is the hallmark of the Mission style, emphasizing function and honest construction. The design features a square top with a retaining rail, suggesting its original use for potted plants, and a lower, single storage shelf connected by straight square posts. The faint, partial paper label visible on the underside of the top appears to be the remnants of an original tag from the Warren Furniture Company of Warren, Pennsylvania, a known manufacturer of Arts and Crafts style furniture in the early 20th century. The piece is in good antique condition, showing expected wear commensurate with age and use, including scuffing, surface scratches, and notable wear/patina to the top surface from water exposure and use, typical for a plant stand. H 28″, W 15.5″, D 15.5″
