Description

An excellent example of an Arts and Crafts or Mission-style side chair, strongly suggesting a date in the early 20th century, likely between 1900 and 1920. The chair features solid quarter-sawn oak construction, a desirable attribute in this era of furniture, with a dark, warm finish. Distinctive characteristics include the straight, square-post form, the vertical slat back, and the heart-shaped cutout on the top rail—a feature often associated with manufacturers like the Quaint Furniture company of Grand Rapids, Michigan. This identification is further supported by the visible metal tag on the underside of the seat frame, which is partially legible as “QUAINT FURNITURE GRAND RAPIDS, MICH.” There is also a stenciled number “612 1/2” which is likely the model or catalog number. The seat is contoured or “saddled” for comfort. The chair appears to be in overall good antique condition with a stable structure. The finish shows expected wear consistent with age and use, including scuffs, scratches, and slight darkening, particularly on the edges and lower portions of the legs. The joinery appears sound. The estimated measurements are based on the user-provided data and the visual scale of a typical dining chair. H 38″, W 16″, D 18″. Note: Pickup/Transport required. Contacts available post auction.
