Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1159:
Description
This Paiute beaded basket circa 1920s exemplifies the artistry and skill of Native American basket weaving. The basket features a tightly woven base made of willow or other natural fibers, completely covered in a sheath of intricately applied glass seed beads. The beadwork showcases a vibrant color palette dominated by a green background with geometric motifs of red white and blue. These designs may represent traditional Paiute symbolism or personal expressions of the weaver. The condition of the basket is stable, however there are multiple aspects of the bead covering that are fugitive, most notably around the rim and upper portion of the basket. The base from the midpoint down is stable. Dimensions: 5.5” diameter at widest x 3” tall and 4” rim diameter. Please see photos.
