Description

Great pairing of authentic road signage spanning different eras. Included are a vintage Route 16 Texas State Highway Sign and a stamped steel “Navaho Trail” sign. The square-shaped TX-16 sign features the classic black number “16” over the word “TEXAS” on a white field with a black border. The back tag confirms this is an official State Department of Highways and Public Transportation (SDH & PT) issued sign, authenticating it as a government-use marker. It is constructed of heavy-gauge aluminum sheeting, which was the standard for Texas signs in the era confirmed by the dating tag (likely late 1970s or 1980s). The “Navaho Trail” sign is an older, fantastic piece of early trail signage, made of stamped steel with raised lettering, likely predating the state highway marker. The Texas sign has developed a beautiful, deep crazing in the painted surface—a desirable, authentic patina—and the white field has yellowed slightly. There are areas of surface scuffs, oxidation, and grime along the edges and mounting holes. The “Navaho Trail” sign is heavily rusted and retains an attractive deep brown, weathered surface, consistent with a very long period of outdoor exposure.
